AVP, Underwriting and Portfolio Management


NEWITY is America’s Small Business Marketplace, focused on empowering entrepreneurs with access to trusted service providers and loan solutions. We are looking for an AVP of Underwriting and Portfolio Management to join our Credit & Underwriting team.  

 In this role, you will partner with prospective borrowers requiring customized lending solutions via the Small Business Administration (“SBA”) 7(a) loan program. You will be responsible for analyzing credit requirements, developing credit packages, and presenting necessary materials to credit committees. You will also manage a loan portfolio and will be responsible for maximizing recovery and minimizing losses. NEWITY offers a fast-paced start-up environment, where you will need to adapt quickly and learn on the fly. This role is a great opportunity for experienced underwriters and portfolio managers with an in-depth knowledge of SBA regulation and lending programs. 

Description & Responsibilities 

  • Partner with prospective borrowers to negotiate and structure complex SBA 7(a) loans 
  • Determine loan feasibility and lender credit worthiness to determine whether the borrower meets bank standards 
  • Perform analysis and underwriting for loan requests and ensure timely completion of credit presentation for new and renewing loans 
  • Prepare and present loan requests to credit committees 
  • Manage pre-closing and closing related activities 
  • Manage relationship with bank partners and borrowers to ensure a smooth borrower journey and to achieve desired lending goals 
  • Monitor and manage loan portfolio to ensure compliance with various loan terms, maximize recovery, and minimize loss 
  • Handle all reporting related to loan portfolio as needed 
  • Manage borrower relationship and actively cross sell NEWITY’s various products 
  • Maintain current and in-depth knowledge of SBA regulations and lending requirements 
  • Manage team of junior underwriters as the portfolio grows 


  • College degree preferred  
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience required 
  • Understand SBA programs, procedures, and lending compliance rules  
  • Experience originating SBA loans related to acquisition financing, working capital, debt refinancing, or other SBA approved activities 
  • Knowledge of credit and risk analysis, credit scoring, and documentation requirements  
  • Service oriented with a proven ability to build long-term relationships with borrowers 
  • Strong sales and relationship management skills 
  • Comfortable managing multiple deliverables at once 
  • Able to multi-task under time pressure  
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take on challenges 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities  
  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail  
  • Proficiency in excel required
